Donald M “Doni” Gieseke, 63, of rural New Ulm died Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 AM Friday, November 16 at the Swan Lake Lutheran Church in Brighton, Township, Nicollet County with Pastor Todd Nelsen officiating. Burial will follow in the Swan Lake Lutheran Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the Lafayette American Legion Post #300.

Visitation will be 4 – 8 PM Thursday and 7:30 – 8 AM Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home North Chapel in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Friday.

Doni is survived by his wife, JoAnn Gieseke of rural New Ulm; mother, Wanda Gieseke of St. Peter; daughters and son-in-law, Marti and Jeff Uhde of Lafayette, Jessica Gieseke and her friend Tyson Raitz of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie Gieseke of Willmar, Andie and Missy Gieseke of New Ulm; Donald M “JR” and Erin Gieseke of Franklin, Indiana; grandchildren, Brett, Jacob, Karlie, Landon, Bennett, Rory and Zoe; sisters and brothers-in-law, Christine and Ken Fluegge of rural New Ulm, Carolyn and Jim Drexler of Searles, Glenys and Bill Zins, Nancy and Rick Grommersch all of Nicollet; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Paulette Gieseke, John and Trish Gieseke all of rural New Ulm.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elroy Gieseke.

Donald M Gieseke was born November 4, 1949 in New Ulm to Elroy and Wanda (Bergstrom) Gieseke; He was a 1967 graduate of New Ulm High School. Doni served in the United States Army November 29, 1968 to August 29, 1970. After serving his country he was united in marriage to JoAnn Drexler on December 3, 1970 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles. After marriage they farmed the Gieseke family farm in Brighton Township and then owned and operated Don Gieseke Trucking where he hauled for area farmers and individual businesses. Doni was a member of the Swan Lake Lutheran Church, Lafayette American Legion Post #300 and the C Store coffee group in Lafayette.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the VA Hospital, Lafayette Legion Post or to the donor’s choice.
