Frederick "Fred" Earl Sather

Frederick “Fred” Sather, 95, of New Ulm and formerly of Hanska died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 AM Wednesday, January 9, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor James Snyder officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Hanska Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be 4 – 8 PM Tuesday and 7:30 – 8:30 AM Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Wednesday.

Fred is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Alicemary and Stanley McDonald of North Mankato; a step-daughter, Phyllis Bruss of Savage; sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Barbarajean Sather of Stillwater, Mark and Lill Sather of Lakeville; step sons, Jim and Sue Bruss of Hanska, Keith and Jody Bruss of Apple Valley, Lynn Bruss and Jean Whitman of St. Paul; 10 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Stell Peterson of Marhsall, Florence Cogswell of Brooklyn Center, LaVonne and Tom Moore of Delaware, Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stan Sather of Madison, Don and Kay Sather of Denver, Colorado, Eileen Sather of Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Christine; 2nd wife, Grace Bruss; and by brothers, Orville and Elwood Sather.

Frederick Earl Sather was born February 16, 1917 in Madison to Sigfred and Mary Alice (Kay) Sather. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota Agricultural School in St. Paul. Fred was united in marriage to Christine Lee on January 4, 1942 at the Lake Hanska Lutheran Church. After marriage they farmed in rural Hanska until retiring and moving to New Ulm in 1997. Fred then married Grace Bruss on February 5, 2002 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm. He was an active civic leader that included Lake Hanska Lutheran Church, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 4H Adult Leader, Farm Bureau and the Brown County Soil and Water Conservation Board. .
