NEW ULM

Herbert “Herb” Tanley, 86, of New Ulm died Monday, January 28, 2013 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato. Funeral service will be 12:30 pm Saturday, February 2 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm with Pastor Penny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Cambria Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 10 am-12:30 pm at the funeral home on Saturday.

Herb is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Carol Tanley of rural New Ulm, Sherry and Bert Bendix of Courtland; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Alice Tanley of Searles; and grandchildren, Michelle Tanley of Apple Valley and Chrissy (John) Davis of rural New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2007; sons, Randy and Richard Tanley; brothers, Newt, Willard, and Dave Tanley; and sisters, Leona Byer and Dora Brueske.

Herbert Paul Tanley was born February 20, 1926 in Cambria to Benjamin and Mary (Rinkel) Tanley. He attended country school in Cambria until the sixth grade. On February 26, 1947 Herb was united in marriage to Bettymae Brueske in Cambria. He farmed near Cambria and worked for Lubert Construction until 1976 when they moved to New Ulm. After moving, Herb worked for the City of New Ulm and opened his own business, Herb’s Saw Sharpening. He retired in 1992. Herb was a member of the Cambria Presbyterian Church, the New Ulm American Legion Post 132, and was a past member of the Cambria American Legion Post 329. He enjoyed his grandchildren and spending time with his friends and family.
