NEW ULM

Mary Neumann, 85, of New Ulm died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm with Monsignor Douglas Grams celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. Friday and from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, North Chapel, in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Saturday. There will be a parish prayer service at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mary is survived by her children, Bob Neumann of New Ulm, Jim (Mary Ellen) Neumann of Scottsdale, Arizona, Margaret Manderfeld of New Ulm, Bruce (Michelle) Neumann of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Brad (Cathy) Neumann of Bloomington, Kathy Neumann of Minneapolis, Brian Neumann of New Ulm, John (Julie) Neumann of Fredericksburg, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters, Teresa (Karl) Esslinger of Mendota Heights, Jarlath Datt of California, brother, Leo Jochum of Glencoe; sister-in-law, Theresa Jochum of Willmar; brother-in-law, John Cato of Arizona; many nieces; and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey Neumann on June 14, 2009; son, Tom Neumann; sister, Delores Cato; brothers, Francis Jochum, Bernard Jochum, and John Jochum.

Mary Margaret Jochum was born on February 20, 1927 in Glencoe to Anthony and Nellie (Connelly) Jochum. She attended Glencoe Public School and graduated in 1945. On May 20, 1947 she was united in marriage to Harvey Neumann in Glencoe. They lived in New Ulm. After raising her family, Mary worked at the Kaiserhoff in New Ulm for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, quilting, and flower gardening. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm, New Ulm Medical Center Auxiliary, and Oak Hills Living Center Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the New Ulm Cancer Center or Hospice.
