Al is survived by his wife, Vicky Forst; daughter, Bridget (Josh) Hansen; son, Ryan Forst (Emma Luthens); granddaughter, Adelyn Hansen; mother, Mary Forst; mother-in-law, Jolene Grossmann; sister, Patty (Jim) Burdick; brother, Ron (Penny) Forst); nieces, nephews, and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph K. Forst; wife, Roberta Forst; and grandparents, Joseph G. & Gertrude Forst, Alfred & Dorothy Kral.
Alan Gerard Forst was born on April 25, 1960 to Joseph K. and Mary L. (Kral) Forst in New Ulm. He attended grade school in St. George and graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1978. Over the years, Al worked in a variety of roles, including Lafayette Excavating, West Newton Township as a road grader operator, and Riverview Sanitation. Through it all, he remained devoted to his lifelong passion for farming, proudly operating his grandfather's farm just outside of St. George. Al was a dedicated farmer and an enthusiastic John Deere aficionado, with a particular fondness for two-cylinder tractors.
On December 16, 2016, Al was united in marriage to Roberta Grossmann in New Ulm. Together they shared many treasured years until her passing in 2021. In 2022, Al met Vicky Sagehorn. Having both experienced the loss of their spouses, they felt truly blessed to find love again. The couple was married on August 24, 2024. During their three and a half years together, they created many loving memories and were grateful for every day they shared.
Al will be fondly remembered as a passionate history buff, for his service as vice president of the German-Bohemian Society of New Ulm, and for his involvement in several clubs related to his hobbies. If you wanted to know anything about New Ulm or two-cylinder tractors, all you had to do was ask Al. He had a remarkable memory, and if he did not know the answer, he would gladly research it.
He was an active member of St. George Catholic Church. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, attending tractor pulls, and taking the Gator out for rides with Vicky. Although his passing was sudden, Al leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories that will live on in all who knew him. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, son, and grandfather. Blessed be his memory.
