Alois "Al" Mathias Regner was born October 21, 1940, in Lafayette, Minnesota, to Joseph and Mary (Kahs) Regner. He grew up in southern Minnesota and attended country grade school in Bernadotte before graduating from Gaylord High School in 1958. Following high school, Alois studied and learned the trade of field tile work in Canada. After returning to Minnesota, he enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard in 1959, where he served in Vietnam and Germany before being honorably discharged in 1961. On October 14, 1978, Alois was united in marriage to Alice Hansen at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gaylord. Together they raised two daughters and made their home in Winthrop, building a life centered on family, hard work, and faith.
Alois spent much of his career in drainage and construction. He began working at Drainage Incorporated in Winthrop, later purchasing the company and operating it until the late 1980s. He then worked for Bussler Construction for many years. After injuries brought his construction career to an end, Alois continued working at 3M, Hutch Tech, and Hefty Seed Company before retiring.
Alois liked to stay busy and was rarely idle. He could often be found working on projects around his house and garage. When time allowed, he enjoyed being outdoors and especially appreciated quiet moments fishing on area lakes. A lifelong Catholic, Alois was also a past member of the Winthrop Kiwanis Club.
Above all else, Alois will be remembered for his kind and helpful heart. He was someone others could rely on, always ready to lend a hand or offer support. His greatest pride was his family, and he was a steady presence for his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the work he took pride in, and the quiet generosity he shared every day. Blessed be his memory.
