Obituary

Anthony "Tony" Hanten, age 52, of New Ulm passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024 in St. Peter.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2024 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – North Chapel in New Ulm. Pastor Nick Scutari will officiate.

Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2024 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – North Chapel in New Ulm.

Tony is survived by his father, Tom Hanten; children, Emma Hanten (Kenny Ramelfanger), Ethan Hanten; grandchild, Elijah Hanten-Machado; beloved cat, Max; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ronda Hanten; and his grandparents, Otis and Peg Loose.

Anthony Otis Hanten was born January 31, 1971 in Virginia, MN. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1989 and went on to the University of Minnesota, Duluth, to earn both an undergrad and graduate degrees. After college, Tony worked as a therapist at various locations, eventually coming to St. Peter as a group supervisor at the state hospital. Throughout his life, Tony was renowned as a baseball player. A major accomplishment in 2012 was being inducted into the New Ulm Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. In addition to baseball, Tony also enjoyed listening and playing music, spending time with his children and grandson, and playing with his cat Max. His good nature and unique sense of humor will always be treasured by those that knew him. Blessed be his memory.
