Arlen Louis Anderson was born December 17, 1954, in Brookings, South Dakota, to Earl and Sylvia (Johnson) Anderson. Growing up in Bushnell, South Dakota, Arlen was a 1973 graduate from Verdi High School, and later furthered his education at the Willmar Vo-Tech where he studied Ag Business. Arlen was united in marriage to Vicky Vander Plaats on November 5, 1976, in Elkton, South Dakota. This union blessed the couple with a daughter and two sons whom together they raised in Gaylord. Arlen worked a dedicated 25-year career with the Ag-Land Coop in Gaylord before his retirement in 2008. Besides his work, there were a variety of hobbies Arlen enjoyed in life. He enjoyed travelling and reading, but also loved spending time in his garage working on his Dodge Coronet. Many great memories were made over the years with his family on trips to Lake Benton. Arlen was a grateful man, but he was especially grateful and proud of the double lung transplant he received in 1998 that gave him many more years of life to see his family grow. What Arlen loved most in life was time he got to spend with his family. He cherished every moment he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His patient, kind and caring heart will forever be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Blessed be his memory.
