Obituary

Arlys M. Stueber, 85, of New Ulm died Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles with Father Mark Steffl celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2026 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

The Christian Mothers will pray the rosary at 4 pm on Monday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

Arlys is survived by her daughter, Karen (Chuck) Beranek of New Ulm; son, Brian (Jody) Stueber of New Ulm; son-in-law, Curt Helget; grandchildren, Jon (Vanessa) Beranek, Mitch (Jennie) Beranek, Ben Beranek, John (Kari) Helget, Lisa (Curt) Bauman; great-grandchildren, Leo and Kate Beranek, Jayden and Nolan Beranek, Chloe and Beau Helget, Weston and Tatum Bauman; brothers, Harlan and Bruce (Jean) Mehlhop.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Stueber; daughters, Donna Helget and Connie Stueber; grandsons, Jeff and Dennis Beranek; sister-in-law, Diane Mehlhop.

Arlys M. Mehlhop was born August 2, 1940, in Gibbon to Harry and Rosella (Niebuhr) Mehlhop.  She graduated from Gibbon High School and worked as a hairdresser following graduation. On May 6, 1961, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Stueber. They raised four children together on their family farm, where Arlys was a farm wife and homemaker.

Later, Arlys provided daycare for 24 years. She was a 4-H leader and a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and Christian Mothers Society. At St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles, she served as Funeral Lunch Coordinator and headed the "Country Store" at the St. John's Church Picnic for many years.

Arlys enjoyed canning fruits, veggies, sauerkraut, and making jelly.  Everyone loved her pickles and requested her German potato salad. Arlys loved her sports- Minnesota Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves and Wild. She was always on top of what was going on with the teams. Most of all, she enjoyed time spent with her family. Blessed be her memory.
