Obituary

Ashley Anne Walls, age 33, of New Ulm, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Ashley was born on June 18, 1992, in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, to Robin Walls and Lisa Backhaus. She was currently pursuing her education at Crown University.

Ashley had a vibrant spirit and found joy in life's simple pleasures. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, word searches, listening to music, and gathering around campfires with family and friends. Above all, she cherished spending time with her loved ones and creating lasting memories during family gatherings. Her daughter June was her inspiration and her life.

Ashley was a member of New Beginning Church and was an ambassador for the Moose Lake EPP Prison Project. She was also a member of the Stage 4 Cancer support group, Be the Light, and was a member of Raising Sisters. Through her faith, compassion, and resilience, Ashley touched countless lives and inspired others throughout her journey.

Ashley is survived by her beloved daughter, June; her fiancé, Joey Burrell; her mother and stepfather, Lisa and David Bruns; her sisters, Lindsey Walls and Chelsey Walls; her stepbrothers, Tony Bruns and Jason Bruns; her stepsister, Elizabeth Bruns; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robin Walls; her grandmother, Mary Walls; and her grandfather, Elmer Walls; and uncle, Brad Backhaus.

A celebration of Ashley's life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place in the New Ulm City Cemetery Columbarium.

Ashley faced every challenge with remarkable strength, grace, and faith. Her kindness, courage, and unwavering love for others will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her. Though her time with us was far too short, her legacy of love and light will never be forgotten.
