Bernita B. Schabert, age 77, of Courtland passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 pm on Sunday, December 3, 2023, and continue from 9:00-10:30 am on Monday, December 4th all at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-North Chapel in New Ulm.

Bernita "Bernie" (Lutz) Schabert was born May 23, 1946 to Richard Lutz and Elsie (Rinkel) Lutz in Mankato.
Bernie was a Cancer Survivor from 2000.
She is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Jacob Schabert; sisters, DeEtta Benidict, and Geraldine Braun, her brothers-in-law, Dale Benidict and Allan Braun. She is survived by many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bernie met Robert (Bob) at Mankato West High School and both graduated in 1964. The couple married on August 10, 1968. Together they had three children and five grandchildren. Daughter, Robyn Schabert, son, Russell Schabert, Morgan, William, Elliot Schabert; and her daughter, Recarda (Craig Schmitz) Schabert, Kasey and Kedar Schmitz and they all live in the New Ulm area. Bernie really loved them and all the activities and fun things they did.
Bernie volunteered at the NUMC oncology, (St. George And St. Mary's) CCD program for 22 years, Septic Inspector for Courtland, Nicollet County, Planning and Zoning 5 years and was involved in starting a 500-card club in the mid-70s and it is still active and many others.
Bernie worked many jobs over her career, including 3M in New Ulm, the Ceramic Shop in Madison Lake, Managed Tina's Jewelry in New Ulm, Two Plus Two in Hutchinson, several area optical stores, and after her schooling, she managed an optical lab.
Bernie enjoyed riding her horse (Dan) and hanging out with him. She was the best card maker, enjoyed crocheting, socializing with friends in the Red Hats Society (Hermans Fraulins), and also enjoyed her scooter ladies' trips. She took pride in the fact that she assisted in making some of the German Flags hanging around New Ulm.
Bernie traveled to 48 states (drove in and slept overnight) on 85% less traveled roads and over 40 National Parks. She had been to Canada over 10 times and a couple Providences. Bernie will be remembered for all that she did and her humor.
