Obituary

Bonnie M. Reitter, age 102, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, October 14, 2024 at Divine Providence in Sleepy Eye.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the St. George Catholic Church in West Newton Township. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the church.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Tom (Diane Franta), Terry (Bill) Biles, and Anne (Steven) Rosen; grandchildren, Andrea (Mike) Gelhar, Nicholas Reitter, and Matthew (Tina Brown) Reitter; great-grandchildren, Connor and Zeke Reitter, and Lorelei Gelhar; sister, Mary (Nyle) Mills; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto in 2002; her parents;  and a sister, Bernie.

Beulah "Bonnie" Marie Epple was born on September 30, 1922 to John & Eleanor (Huelskamp) Epple on the Epple farm in rural St. George. She attended St. George Parochial School graduating in 1936, Holy Trinity High School, New Ulm, graduating in 1940, and St. Catherine's College, graduating in 1944 with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics and Nutrition.

Bonnie worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Chicago in dietetics and admissions clerk until 1948. She was united in marriage to Otto Reitter on May 2, 1949 at the St. George Catholic Church. They farmed 1 mile west of St. George where they raised their three children. Bonnie was active in St. George parish with the Forester Society, as member of the parish council, managing the school lunch program, and as a dining room hostess for many weddings and school functions. For five years, Bonnie cooked at the New Ulm Senior Center as the Food Service Manager.

She enjoyed cooking, dancing, playing cards, gardening, embroidery, reading, traveling, and gatherings with friends and family. Bonnie was a 4-H leader for the West Newton Club and enjoyed working with young people.

In 1997, Otto and Bonnie moved to Las Vegas where they enjoyed the climate and living closer to their daughters. She moved back to New Ulm in 2008, celebrated her 90th birthday at Orchard Hills on September 30, 2012, and her 100th birthday at the Divine Providence Home.

Memorials are preferred to the Divine Providence Home or the Church of St. George.
