Obituary

Charles Henry Kunz, age 88, of New Ulm died Saturday, January 27, 2024 while in hospice care for an inoperable brain tumor at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.


Funeral Service will be 11 AM Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH Chapel in New Ulm. Visitation will be 9 - 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 63 years RoseMary (Stadick) and their sons Michael of Minneapolis and David of Gilbert, and grandchildren Francisco and Sofia. Charlie is also survived by his brother-in-law Ben Stadick and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan, parents Otto and Marie (Bongards) Kunz; his sisters and spouses Rosemary (Robert) Groebner and Kathleen (Wallace) Schnobrich; brother and spouse Laverne (Lois) Kunz; sister/brother-in-law Janet (Laverne) Helget and sister-in-law Jan Stadick.


Charlie was born October 30, 1935 to Otto and Marie Kunz in New Ulm. He graduated from New Ulm Cathedral High School in 1953 and then served in the US Army from 1953 to 1956. After boot camp and the Army Language Center in Monterey, California he served with the 328th Communications Reconnaissance Company stationed in Bad Aibling, Germany. He shared many colorful stories from this period of his life.


In 1956 Charlie returned to New Ulm and worked for 40 years at Kraft Foods. Charlie married Rosie Stadick on September 17, 1960. Together they raised three kids (Sue, Mike & Dave) and were active following all the family sports, activities, and travels. After retirement Charlie continued to enjoy traveling, attending sporting events, and was active with the American Legion and New Ulm Amateur baseball programs. He really enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and liked to go fishing, mushroom and ginseng hunting, and follow sports of all types - high school, amateur, college, and professional.


Charlie will be deeply missed by those who knew him. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Legion or New Ulm Baseball Association.
