Obituary

Charles Lennis Mitchell, age 81 of New Ulm died peacefully on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1:30-3:30 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-South Chapel in New Ulm. Following the visitation, burial will take place in the New Ulm City Cemetery followed by a luncheon reception at the funeral home.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Mark) Schiesl of Brookings, South Dakota; his sons, Kevin (Andrea) Mitchell of Centennial, Colorado, Kyle (Jill Anderson) Mitchell of Lake Villa, Illinois; his grandchildren, Amber Fleming of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Andrew Schiesl of Brookings, South Dakota, Kailey (Max) Swienton of Thornton, Colorado, Ashley (Ian) Cook of Savage, Minnesota, Mikayla Mitchell, Elizabeth Mitchell, and Olivia Mitchell all of Centennial, Colorado; his great grandchildren, Callen and Amelia; his brothers, John (Chris) Mitchell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Don Mitchell of Bellevue, Washington; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lennis and Mary Mitchell; and his son, Timothy Charles Mitchell.

Charles Lennis Mitchell was born on October 1, 1941, in Reedsburg, Wisconisn, to Lennis and Mary (Crouse) Mitchell. He attended school in Minneapolis and was a 1959 graduate from New Ulm Public High School. He furthered his education studying at the community college in Aurora, Illinois. Charles was united in marriage to Diane Kaping in 1966 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Although they later divorced, the couple was blessed with four children whom together they raised in New Ulm. Charles worked his entire career as a Regional Parks Manager with the Department of Natural Resources. His job with the DNR took him to multiple state parks over his career including, Lake Shetek, Camden, and Flandreau, as well as the Regional Office in New Ulm. Charles had a lifelong love of classical music. He was an avid supporter of the Minnesota Orchestra, as well as a proud member of the Concord Singers of New Ulm. Charles will forever be remembered for his caring and generous heart, as well as his witty humor by all who had the privilege of knowing him. These memories and countless others will forever stay in the hearts of those who knew him best. Blessed be his memory.
