Cynthia "Cindy" Laine Hillesheim, age 73, of New Ulm, MN passed away on October 9th, 2024.
Cindy was born Jan 15th, 1951 to Henry and Carol (Holm) Nupson of New Ulm, MN. She was the oldest of 4 siblings. Cindy attended high school in New Ulm and college at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Cindy was united in marriage to Michael "Mike" Hillesheim on November 24, 1978, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. She bartended at Turner Hall for 20 years, drove truck, and worked at Red Owl before opening Nadelkunst, where she shared her lifelong passion of needlework with the community. Nadelkunst has been a community staple for over 47 years.
Cindy was an avid Twins and Gopher fan, spending many days listening, watching or attending games. She could often be found Thursdays at the Legion playing bingo and loved playing, Euchre, canasta, cribbage, and sheepshead, often competitively with family. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Cindy spent many hours in her garden, growing produce for canning and flowers to admire. She loved cooking shows and often tried out new recipes and cooking trends. Many summers were spent at the family cabin in Spicer with family and friends, relaxing, fishing, boating, knitting, and playing cards. Cindy will forever be remembered for her loving, caring, spunky personality, and will be missed forever by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Carol, her father Henry, and her brother Neil Nupson. Cindy is survived by her husband Michael "Mike" Hillesheim of New Ulm; her sisters, and brothers-in-law, Barb (Patrick) Murphy and Nancy (Rick) Ross; her son, and daughter-in-law, Matthew (Kay) Hillesheim of Rochester, MN; and daughter, and son-in-law, Michelle (Matthew) Lucht of Topeka, KS. She has 5 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Kathy Ulland-Klinkner will officiate, and burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, October 16th at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-South Chapel in New Ulm. The visitation will continue from 10-11 am on Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church prior to the service.
Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, or the donor's choice.
