Darleen Mae Schroeder was born on February 18, 1928, in New Ulm, to Robert and Florence (Engel) Schroeder. She was a 1945 graduate of New Ulm High School. Darleen was united in marriage to Ader Wieland on June 26, 1947, in New Ulm. Early in her adult life, she worked at Herberger's. After her 5 children were in school, she worked for Brown County where she was employed for 25 years until retirement. Darleen was an active member of Oakwood United Methodist Church, serving as the church treasurer for many years, teaching Sunday School, and singing in the choir. She was a Turner Lady and a social member of the New Ulm Country Club. She loved to bowl and was inducted into the New Ulm Bowling Hall of Fame. Darleen also enjoyed playing cards and bingo, watching her kids and grandkids play sports, and going to the casino once in a while during her later years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend. She was very humble; she wouldn't want to be made "a big deal" of, but she would love for us all to get together to share some stories and laughs in her memory. She will be greatly missed.
