Obituary

David Wilbert Hermel, age 71, of New Ulm, MN, passed away unexpectedly in a car accident
on October 8, 2024, in Meeker County. Born on March 5, 1953, at Union Hospital in New Ulm,
David's life was centered around faith, family, and hard work. He grew up on the family dairy
farm, which he proudly took over in 1978, dedicating over 30 years of his life to the land and
livestock he loved.

David attended Courtland Immanuel Lutheran School from 1st through 8th grade, where he
played basketball and track. He graduated from Waseca Ag, where he was involved in both
wrestling and football. David was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Courtland, MN, where he remained a faithful member throughout his life.

On November 20, 1976, David married Brenda (Woltman) Hermel, and together they raised
five children: Toby (April), Mandy, Travis, Jacqueline (Jeremy Whiteford), and Ashley (Jeremy
Grant). They were blessed with six grandchildren: Avery, Katelynn, Brooklyn, Pehling,
Prudence, and Nova. David's family was the light of his life, and he treasured the time he spent
with them.

David worked hard throughout his life, from driving a milk can route for AMPI and working at
Nicollet Coop to owning Heartland Pest Control for over 15 years. He was equally committed
to his faith and community, being an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Courtland, MN.

David loved the simple pleasures—cheese, ice cream, peanut butter, milk, Snickers, and a
good bacon cheeseburger. Weekend adventures were one of his favorite pastimes, including
trips to wineries, antique shops, small towns, historical sites, Ma & Pa stores, cozy cafés, and
tasting offerings from local butcher shops.

He played softball with the Crow Bar team, where he shared many fun and wild nights with
friends. In his downtime, he loved card games, particularly Pfeffer and Fuchs Catchin'. He was
also fond of classic 1950s and 1960s music, with favorite songs like "Long Beautiful Hair" and
"Bird is the Word" bringing a smile to his face.

David was a devoted sports fan, especially when it came to cheering on his kids and grandkids
in their various activities. His pride and joy in their accomplishments were evident to everyone
who knew him.

Known for his generosity and heart of gold, David never turned down anyone in need. His dad
jokes, warmth, and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was also a
strong believer in his political views, with a special admiration for Rush Limbaugh.

David is now reunited with his parents, Inez and Wilbert, and his brother Roger. We imagine
him picking them up in his beloved 1971 Nova Rally Sport, ready for a joyful reunion and new
adventures.
