David J. Ries, age 84, of New Ulm passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023 at the Oak Hills Living Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Monday, September 11, 2023 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will take place at a later date in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 - 5:00 pm Sunday, September 10, 2023 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH Chapel and will continue from 9:30 – 10:30 am on Monday at the Funeral Home.

David is survived by his daughters, Christie (Clayton) Dewanz, Deana Ries and Sandy (Leon) Kley; grandchildren, David (Tena) Dewanz, Christopher (Ana) Dewanz, Bryan (Emily) Dewanz, Aaron Dewanz, Kaitlyn Ries, Kenny Ries, Riley Kley; his sisters, LaVonne Grussendorf, Sharon Johnson, Mardell (Larry) Stueber; and his brother, Maury Ries; sisters-in-law, Barb Ries, Marion Dittrich; brother-in-law, Udean (Brenda) Sargent; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, D. Karen Ries; brother, Ron Ries; brothers-in-law, Bobby Grussendorf, Earl Johnson, Tom Sargent, Norbert Sargent, Jim Dittrich and sister-in-law, Clara Ries.

David John Ries was born January 14, 1939 to Albert and Elsie (Miller) Ries in New Ulm. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1957. David was united in marriage to D. Karen Sargent on April 15, 1961 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage the couple raised their family together on their farm where David farmed both dairy and crop. David and Karen moved to New Ulm in May of 1996 but he continued to farm. In his younger years David enjoyed fishing, playing softball and bowling and later in life he found enjoyment in watching his grandchildren play ball or attending their music activities. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Blessed be his memory.
