Dick is survived by his brother, Al (Doris) Drage of Evan; his niece, Theresa (Jim) Ibberson of Sleepy Eye; his nephews, Allan Drage of Watauga, Texas, Dan Drage of New Orleans, Louisianna; and many other great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley in 2007; and his sister, Joyce Drage.
Dick Conrad Drage was born on April 9, 1943, in Cecil, Wisconsin, to Albert and Selma (Schultz) Drage. Growing up in eastern Wisconsin, Dick graduated from Bonduel High School with the Class of 1961. Soon after graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War.
Following his honorable discharge, Dick returned to Wisconsin and began working at Ivans in Shawano, where he made cheese boxes, before later moving to Wausau. On February 16, 1974, Dick was united in marriage to Shirley Wiemann in Wisconsin. Together, the couple made homes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Carlton, Texas, and eventually Lewisville, Texas, where Dick spent many years working in furniture repair. He took pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic.
Outside of work, Dick embraced life with a variety of passions and hobbies. He had a lifelong love for the game of golf and spent countless hours on his favorite courses, often alongside his close friend, Doug Opel. Dick also loved traveling and was proud to have visited all 48 continental states. He had a special appreciation for cars, always enjoying a sharp new ride and later collecting many model cars over the years.
Carrying on his family’s musical tradition, Dick enjoyed listening to and playing old-time music. He could play both the bass horn and the tuba, and music remained one of the many joys throughout his life. Those who knew Dick will remember him as a kind and gentle man with a towering presence, a quick wit, and a wonderful sense of humor. Even in his final days, Dick continued to make others laugh.
Dick will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will forever cherish the laughter, stories, kindness, and steady presence he brought into their lives. His memory will live on in the music he loved, the fairways he walked, the miles he traveled, and in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Blessed be his memory.
