Obituary

Dorothy Ann (Saffert) Schroepfer, age 98, of New Ulm, died on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Oak Hills Living Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity with Father Mark Steffl celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday.

The Christian Mothers will pray the rosary at 4 pm on Monday, March 2, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes of New Ulm are assisting her family.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Knight and Nancy Ford (Dick); six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Henry Saffert; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aloysius "Ollie" Schroepfer; her parents, Henry & Anna Saffert; father and mother-in-law, Anton & Amelia Heitzer; brother, Floyd (Helen) Saffert; sister, Mary Ann (Jim) Niehoff; sister-in-law, Clarice Saffert; brother and sister-in-law, Dutch (Bev) Schroepfer; and son-in-law, Jerry Ford.

Dorothy Ann Saffert was born on March 25, 1927 in New Ulm to Henry & Anna (Hacker) Saffert. She graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1945. On June 8, 1948 Dorothy married Ollie Schropefer at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. They lived in Sleepy Eye for 12 years before moving to New Ulm. She worked as a bookkeeper for Pinks/Ehlers Department Store for 28 years. Upon retirement, she and her husband took up stained-glass. They made many gifts for family and friends, and made many stained-glass windows for their home. Dorothy had many hobbies. She enjoyed all kinds of music, bowling, fishing, gardening, sewing, and took pride in her frog garden. For 15 years she and Ollie delivered Meals on Wheels. Dorothy was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, St. Elizabeth Society, Christian Mothers, and the Turner Ladies.

In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are preferred to Cathedral School/Church or donor's choice.
