Dwain Nielsen, age 81 of New Ulm, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes - South Chapel in New Ulm. Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes - South Chapel in New Ulm.

Dwain is survived by his sister Jeanette Barnell; niece Kathleen (Ronald) Dupont; nephews Daniel Barnell, Brian, Bradley, and Bruce Lohaus; many great nieces and nephews; friends and extended family.
Dwain is preceded in death by his parents, sister Beverly Lohaus, niece Juila Kiewel, brother-in-laws Robert Lohaus, and Richard Barnell.
Dwain was born November 29, 1942, to Alfred and Tracy (Klein) Nielsen in Fairfax, MN. His life was marked by kindness, joy, and an adventurous spirit. Dwain was a dedicated worker, proud to be a part of the team at MRCI for 30 years. His warm and friendly nature made him well-known around the New Ulm community. He embraced life fully, always eager to try new things and tackle challenges on his own. Dwain had a deep love for animals, especially dogs and horses, and animals seemed to feel the same about him.
Dwain participated in the Special Olympics, where he especially enjoyed playing baseball. He was also an active member of the People's First organization. Beyond his work and sports, Dwain found great joy in bowling, fishing, and spending time outdoors.
Above all, Dwain treasured the time spent with his family and friends, which he valued most in life.
Dwain enjoyed all of God's creatures around him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Brown County Humane Society, or donor's choice.
