Obituary

Edgar Reinhold Isberner, age 91, of New Ulm passed away on February 15th after 6 days at Oak Hills Nursing Home surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter officiating the Mass. Burial will follow in the Soldiers Rest section of the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Full military honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Ed was born in Nicollet, MN and moved to New Ulm at age 9 where he graduated from New Ulm Public High School. He served in the US Navy from 1943 -'46 as an Aviation Machinist Mate in WW II flying strategic bombing missions and was decorated with the Air Medal Citation and Distinguished Flying Cross. He took pride in seeing 3 of his surviving grandsons continue serving in the Marine Corp; Gunnery Sergeant Joshua Isberner, USMC Staff Sergeant Jacob Isberner, USMC Captain Zachary Isberner, USMC.

After returning from duty, he met and married his surviving wife, Carol (Groebner). For 40 years Ed owned his own businesses starting with a Standard Oil gas station and later the Isberner Oil distribution company. He was well loved by his customers for always going the extra mile for them.

Upon selling his business, he and Carol spent many years traveling the country in their motorhome and spent winters in Melbourne Beach, FL.

To his family, friends and customers, Ed was an example of a faithful servant, seldom thinking of himself and always eager to help others. He was an "inventor" committed to "improving anything that made better sense." He modeled integrity, hard work, a sense of humor and the Golden Rule. As a man of faith, he relied daily on the Holy Spirit and taught others to do the same.

His legacy is passed on to his surviving daughters, Paula Mitlyng, Carla Fuglestad (Dave), sons Todd Isberner (Wendie), Brad Isberner (Sandy), Jeff Isberner, 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded by parents, Carl and Clara (Schlomann), siblings Alvin, Martin, Gertrude and Amanda.
