Obituary

Eileen Braun, 86, of New Ulm died Friday, May 27, 2011 at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father Paul Schumacher celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 PM Monday and 7:30 - 10 AM Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mother's Society will pray the rosary at 4 PM Monday at the Cathedral. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Eileen is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Jeff Larson of Rochester, Mary Ellen and Jim Neumann of Scottsdale, Arizona, Jeanne and Bruce Lambrecht of Minneapolis, Ann and Willy Hillesheim of rural Sleepy Eye; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Shari Braun of Pasadena, California, Mark and Dena Braun of Madison Lake, Dale and Betty Braun of Courtland; 21 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Griffin of Minneapolis, Margaret Bauer of New Ulm, Monica Clark of Rochester; and by a brother, Father Paul Schumacher of Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Victor Braun on February 6, 1997; brothers, Adrian, Gerald, Dennis and Daniel Schumacher; brothers-in-law, Frank McCarty, Frank Griffin and Robert Bauer.

Eileen Mary Schumacher was born April 14, 1925 in Leavenworth Township, Brown County to Mathias and Theresa (Prokesch) Schumacher. She attended school in Springfield and was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye. She then attended Normal Training School in New Ulm to be a teacher. After school, she taught in District #65 in Leavenworth Township. Eileen was united in marriage to Victor Braun on June 18, 1946 at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. After marriage they farmed in Sigel Township, Brown County for more than 50 years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards and watching the Minnesota Twins. Eileen was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, Christian Mother's Society, Home Extension and she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the New Ulm Medical Center Auxiliary.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the New Ulm Area Catholic Schools or to the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
