Elaine Margaret Sturm was born October 2, 1920, in Cottonwood Township-Brown County to John Sr. and Gretchen (Metzen) Sturm. Growing up in New Ulm, she was a 1940 graduate from New Ulm High School. On June 4, 1941, Elaine was united in marriage to Edwin Stueber at the St. Mary's Catholic Church parsonage. This union blessed the couple with their daughter Donna whom together they raised in New Ulm. Early in their lives, Elaine and Edwin enjoyed frequenting the local dance ballrooms where the loved doing the polka and waltz together. They also enjoyed attending Thrashing Shows, and the vendors always appreciated seeing Elaine as well. Early in her working career, Elaine worked at the Grand Hotel in New Ulm, Del Monte in Sleepy Eye, and also worked as a care giver for those in need. Besides her work, Elaine volunteered as much of her time as she was able with such organizations as the Hospital Auxiliary-Grey Ladies, the Clothing Depot, and at her church. Elaine prided herself as a mother, wife, grandmother, caregiver, and provider. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning countless treats and meals for her family to enjoy. As a gifted crafter, there wasn't much Elaine couldn't do. She shared her talents as a quilter, embroiderer, and seamstress with all of her loved ones as well as with the church's sewing mission groups. Her competitive nature would be brought out while playing such games as Bingo, Sheepshead, or checkers with her family, and she always loved a nice quick trip to Jackpot. Elaine was a devout lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, and gave as much of her time and talents giving back to the church as she could. Although Elaine lived a long and beautiful 103 years of life, she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of having her in their lives. Countless memories of Elaine will forever stay in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Blessed be those memories.
