Obituary

Esther I. Jensen, 91, of New Ulm died Monday, May 13, 2024 at the Benedictine Living Community in Northfield.

Memorial service will be 11 am Friday, May 31, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Kathy Ulland-Klinkner officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:30 – 11:00 am Friday, May 31, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Remembering Esther – wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, bingo-player, lover of music and dancing, traveling, and proud mother of five boys. Mom had a great dry sense of humor which some of us did not appreciate until we were older.

Mom was a great lover of flowers and plants and had a green thumb. Flowers and plants were part of each home, including helping with the gardens at RealLife and then enjoying it when we brought plants and flowers for her to enjoy inside. Irises were one of her favorite flowers and this fits with what irises symbolize: faith, courage, hope, trust in the divine and a beautiful reminder to keep faith and hope alive. Faith was very important and Mom (and Dad) were active at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and continued with church attendance as she was able at Trinity Care Center and Benedictine Living Community.

Mom enjoyed playing cards, bingo, word searches, helping others, and just visiting with everyone. Kindness and helping others were just part of who she was. Many thanks to those who befriended her during her life in Rochester, Duluth, New Ulm, and her final year at Benedictine Living Community in Northfield, MN.

Mom passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2024, after a struggle with a broken hip, transitional care, and hospice care. She wanted to make it to 90 and made it to 91! Special thanks to all of the caregivers, nurses, and residents at Benedictine for their care, generosity, and compassion with Mom, as well as us, as family.

Her boys include: Mike Jensen of New Ulm; Larry (Terri) Jensen of Northfield; Dave (Karen) Jensen of Searles; Jeff (Cathy) Jensen of St Paul; and Bill Jensen of St Peter. Esther loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mom's sister Adeline Thompson of Arizona is two years younger than Mom and they were able to keep in touch almost every day by phone.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Douglas "Red" Jensen; siblings, Oliver (Lorraine) Himley; Mary (Richard) Macziewski; Bernetta (Richard "Dicky") Martin and brother-in-law, Frank Thompson.

Mom, you will be missed by all of us. Love you.
