Eugene “Gene” Kraus, age 80 of New Ulm, died Friday, July 10, 2026 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Gene is survived by his wife, Betty Kraus of New Ulm; son, Todd (Sherry) Kraus of Hutchinson; granddaughter, Jenessa Ludewig of Mankato; grandsons, Eric and Scott Zobel; brother, Jim (Shirley) Kraus of Pennock; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Prisicilla Zobel; sister, Teresa Sistad; brother, Johnny Guemmer.

Eugene Alfred Kraus was born April 29, 1946 in New Ulm to John and Elsie (Guemmer) Kraus. He graduated from New Ulm High School. On December 4, 1971, he was united in marriage to Betty Habeck in New Ulm. The couple was blessed with a son and a daughter. Throughout the years, Gene was employed with AMPI, Jennie-O in Wilmar, Industrial Air, and lastly, North Central Container. Gene was a simple man who enjoyed a good meal, naps, reading, coloring, and especially, walks with his loyal companions, Scooby and Ebony.
