Floyd "Mickey" Wilfert, age 86, of New Ulm, died Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.

Private family services will be held at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Burial with full military honors accorded by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery – Soldier's Rest Section.

Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, SOUTH CHAPEL of New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Pacita; son, Floyd M. Wilfert Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Judy Zahn and Rita Schoof, both of New Ulm; brothers, Tom (Janet) of New Ulm, Gene (Candis) and Larry (Mary), both of rural New Ulm; and sister-in-law, Marlys Wilfahrt of Mankato.

He was preceded in death by parents; son, Mickey; step-son, Ponciano Cudanes; brothers, Harlan (Elaine) and Bill; and brother-in-law, Howard Schoof.

Floyd Charles Wilfert was born on August 3, 1936 in New Ulm to Herbert & Frances (Holm) Wilfahrt. He attended District 6 Elementary and received his high school diploma while in the service. He married Pacita Mariano on December 9, 1973 at Philippine Independent Church in San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines. Mickey served in the US Army from1955-1957. He was employed by the Farmers Co-op Creamery in New Ulm from 1957-1960 when he again enlisted in the Army until 1963. Mickey was discharged and then enlisted in the US Navy where he served on various ships and stations until retirement in 1978. He was employed by the New Ulm Country Club until 1982 when he and his family moved to San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines. Upon returning to New Ulm in 1991, Mickey again worked for the Country Club until his retirement in 1998. He was a life member of VFW Post 1648, American Legion Post 132, and Fleet Reserve Association Branch 367 of San Miguel Philippines. In his younger days, Mickey was an accomplished concertina player, considering he was self-taught. He enjoyed watching sports on television, and spending time with his brothers and sisters at the infamous "Boar's Nest" on the family farm. Many cherished memories were made there. In addition, he also liked hunting and fishing with his brothers.
