Gary Syverson, age 79, of New Ulm passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home - North Chapel in New Ulm. Pastor Nathanael Mayhew will officiate. Burial will follow in the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye where the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – North Chapel in New Ulm

Gary is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Marlene Syverson of New Ulm; daughters, Sherri (Mark) Winkelman of Dassel, Lynae (Wade) Frauendienst of Buffalo; son, Michael (Holly) Syverson of New Ulm; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Philip Lendt of New Ulm; brother-in-law, Ronald (Carol) Windschitl of Comfrey; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, George Lendt; brother, Carlyle Syverson; sister-in-law, Donna (Windschitl) Snyder.
Gary Roger Syverson was born December 3, 1942, to James and Helen (Marti) Syverson in Sleepy Eye. He was baptized February 7, 1943, at St. John's Lutheran Church, confirmed in his faith on May 20, 1956, and graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1960. After graduation, Gary enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1961 to 1964. Gary was honorably discharged on December 7, 1964, after spending part of his time in Alaska. On December 18, 1965, Gary was united in marriage to Marlene Windschitl at the Grace Parsonage in Sleepy Eye. In 1968, the couple moved to New Ulm and have made it their home ever since. Gary provided for his family by working at AMPI and Kraft Foods in New Ulm until he retired. In his free time, Gary enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, fishing, and spending time with all of his family. He will be dearly missed by those that knew him. Blessed be his memory.
