Obituary

Gerald J. Scheurer, age 81, of Courtland, died Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Rivers Edge Hospital in St. Peter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 30, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Burial will be in the Catholic Church of the Visitation Cemetery at Swan Lake.

Visitation will be 4:30-7:30 pm on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH Chapel in New Ulm, and will continue one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Connie; his sons, Wayne (Sonia) of Nicollet, Lee of Mankato, and Michael (Mindy) of Nicollet; six grandchildren, Paul (Heidi) Scheurer, Ashley (Jose Carlos) Pena, Crystal (Juan Carlos) Torres, Samantha Scheurer, Micah (Amanda) Armstrong, and John Scheurer; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Marie Schmidt, Kathy (Jim) Mongeau, and Vicki (Mark) Eckes; brothers, Jim (Jane), Roger (Mary), Alan (Ginny) and Richard (Katie); and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives & friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Polly Scheurer; his parents; brother, Charles; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Willaert and Kathy Wilmes; and brothers-in-law, Milton Schmidt, Leon Willaert, Bill Depuydt, Don Pietsch, and Merle Wilmes.

Gerald John Scheurer was born on February 26, 1941 in Mankato to Louis & Beulah (Hagwood) Scheurer.  He was united in marriage to Constance Pietsch on August 31, 1963 in Mankato. Gerald was born to be a farmer, and drove a tractor since the age of five. He always enjoyed working with the men at U.F.C. and Arnold Implement in Mankato. Gerald was a member of Heartland Corn, U.F.C., Sugar Beet Growers of Southern Minnesota, and St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a man of few words, but many talents, especially in his farm shop. Gerald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was most passionate about passing down to his future generations the love of farming, work ethic, and his many skills.
