Gerald Edwin Ulrich's Obituary
Gerald "Gerry" Ulrich, 84, of New Ulm died Thursday, July 9, 2015 at his home.
Funeral service will be 10 AM Monday, July 13, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Donald Sutton Officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers' Rest Section with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 4 – 8 PM Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAEPL and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Monday.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Carole Ulrich of New Ulm; daughters, Lori Ulrich and Linda (Barry) Austad both of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Casey Austad of Minneapolis, Brandi (James) Grandaw of Duluth; great granddaughters, Sajen and Mattea; a sister, Lucille Wehking of Hutchinson; his brothers, Dennis Ulrich of Hutchinson and James (Monnie) Ulrich of McGregor; and by brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wally and LaVonne Ebert and Irene Knutson all of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Ulrich; a brother-in-law, Luverne Wehking; and a sister-in-law, Norma Ulrich.
Gerald Edwin Ulrich was born August 12, 1930 in Buffalo Lake to Edwin and Frieda (Braun) Ulrich. He was raised on a farm near Buffalo Lake and was a 1948 graduate of Buffalo Lake High School. Gerry served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954, serving three years in Japan and attaining the rank of Staff Sargent . He was united in marriage to Carole Brust on March 29, 1958 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. After marriage Gerry was employed as a purchaser and grader of Cheese for Kraft Foods in New Ulm until retiring in 1987.
In his youth Gerry played basketball, football and baseball at Buffalo Lake High School. Later he played town team baseball for Buffalo Lake, Hanska and New Ulm and then fast pitch softball for the Kraft Foods team. He loved golfing, traveling, fishing, horses and all sports. Gerry was an avid Minnesota Twins, Vikings and Gophers Basketball fan.
He was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
