Glenn A. Hughes, 86, of Big Fork (Formerly Lake Crystal area) died Friday, March 13, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 17 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm with Pastor Dorothy DuQuette officiating. Burial will follow in the Cambria Cemetery in Cambria.

Glenn is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Dienken of Belle Plaine, Pat (Jim) Mielke of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Mary (Greg) Kriese of St. Michael; son, Gary (Kay) Hughes of Lake Crystal; eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Virginia who died in 2008.

Glenn Abraham Hughes was born January 2, 1929 to Hugh "Toby" and Jennie (Thomas) Hughes in New Ulm. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School. Glenn was united in marriage to Virginia Carlson on September 26, 1953 in New Ulm. The couple was blessed with four children. Early in his life Glenn worked as a farmer. He later went to work for Kraft and continued to farm. Glenn eventually retired in 1987 when he and his wife moved retired "up-north" to Big Fork, Minnesota. Glenn had a true appreciation for the outdoors his entire life. He loved to fish, hunt, camp, and travel. He and his wife Virginia also enjoyed taking in nature riding four wheelers and snowmobiles. Glenn was a gifted woodworker, making many treasured crafts for all in his family. Glenn had a lot of talents and hobbies in his life, but what he loved the most was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his beloved dog Pepper. Glenn was a member of the Bethel Masonic Lodge #103, a past member of the Cambria Presbyterian Church, and most recently a member of the Lawron Presbyterian Church in Bovey.
