Glenn L. Schmidt, 72, of Courtland died Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Mayo Health Systems in Mankato. Funeral service will be 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, North Chapel, in New Ulm with Pastor Charlie Gilmore officiating. Visitation will be 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, North Chapel, in New Ulm.
Glenn Leonard Schmidt, the son of Walter and Irene (Tauer) Schmidt, was born on July 9, 1942 in Brookfield Township, Redwood County. He attended St. Michael's School and Morgan High School followed by two years at St. Cloud Tech and military service.
Glenn worked at 3M in New Ulm for 18 years then was transferred to 3M in Nevada, MO. where he worked for 14 years prior to retirement. During his 3M years, he also worked in Malaysia. During his years in Nevada, MO. he resided in Kansas City, MO. Glenn and his wife Penny enjoyed many years of traveling the U.S. on Harley Davidson motorcycles. They also attend the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for 50 plus years.
Glenn is survived by his children, Jeffrey (Lisa) Schmidt of San Antonio, TX, Ronata Weigel of Thief River Falls, Sue (Terry) Carr of Kansas City, MO.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Connie (Ron) Zabel of Prior Lake, Colleen (Steve) Ratcliff of New Ulm; and many nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeleine (Penny) in 2009; parents; and brother Gary. www.mvfh.org
