Helen Virginia Prahl was born August 19, 1929, at the Union Hospital in New Ulm to Otto and Emily (Hensel) Prahl. She was a 1947 graduate from Franklin High School, and furthered her education at the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester where she attained her degree as a registered nurse. Helen was united in marriage to Robert B. Runck on April 5, 1951, at a country church in rural Morgan. This union blessed the couple with four children whom together they raised in rural New Ulm. Helen worked her entire career as a dedicated, compassionate, and loving nurse for the Union Hospital, Sioux Valley Hospital, and eventually the New Ulm Medical Center before her retirement in 1992. Besides her work as a nurse, there were a variety of other hobbies she enjoyed to keep busy. Helen enjoyed working with her hands knitting, sewing and doing needle point work. She also loved sharing her gifts in the kitchen baking for any occasion. To socialize, Helen loved sharing laughs with family and friends over a game of cards. Helen was known by many as a loyal friend who truly loved her family. She loved every moment she got to spend with them, and especially enjoyed getting to follow their youth sports growing up. Helen was always there for anyone in need, and her caring heart will be forever remembered by all who knew and loved her. Blessed be her memory.
