Obituary

Howard "Howie" Schroeder, 81, of New Ulm died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at his home.

Visitation will be 10 AM to 12 PM Wednesday, October 1 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldier's Rest Section with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Howie is survived by his wife, Carol Schroeder of New Ulm; daughters, Gail Schroeder of New Ulm, Julie Schroeder of Harrisburg, South Dakota; sons, Keith (Linda) Schroeder of Baxter, Scott Schroeder of New Ulm; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister, Ordelle Friederich of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marion Slander; and by his brothers, Roger and Delford Schroeder.

Howard Robert Schroeder was born June 6, 1933 in New Ulm to Robert and Esther (Hopp) Schroeder. He was a graduate of Nicollet High School. Howie served in the U.S. Army from 1951 – 1953 and then the Minnesota National Guard from 1953 – 1954. He was united in marriage to Carol Reinarts on August 29, 1959 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. After marriage they resided in New Ulm where Howie was employed at Selby Manufacturing in Nicollet, New Ulm Manufacturing, RayGo, B&F Electric and Techtronics. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

Howie was a member of the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post #132, Brown County DAV Chapter 15 and the Minnesota Deer Hunter's Association where he was one of the founding members.
