Jackie Ronald Sikora was born on September 22, 1935 in Morton, MN to John and Elfie (Lothert) Sikora. He graduated from Morton Public High School in 1953. During his high school years and into college he worked for the local Morton Drug Store as an assistant to the pharmacist. Jack was 1 of 3 students in his class to continue onto college and chose to pursue his studies at the University of Minnesota. He graduated in 1957 with a B.S degree as a registered pharmacist.
In 1960 Jack was drafted into the Army and was in active reserve until 1966. He was noted for being a sharpshooter.
He worked in Minneapolis at various drug stores until 1985 when the opportunity arose for him to purchase his own drug store in downtown New Ulm, MN. He and his second wife, Shirley, owned and operated Sikora Valu Drug until 1991. The marriage and business dissolved and the pharmacy and Jack were bought out by K-mart. Jack continued his career with K-mart until 2000. He volunteered at the Lamberton Drug Store until 2015 and was 80 years old when he officially retired.
Jack's favorite pastime was fishing. For months he would prepare for his annual 3 week vacation into the Canadian Wilderness where he would camp with friends and family. He was known for catching the biggest and most fish and was hired as a local guide.
Even though Jack lived most of his life in the public eye, he was a private person who enjoyed the peace of his own company. Classical music, particularly Luciano Pavarotti, could be heard blaring from his computer at all times of the day or night. His wonder and curiosity kept him busy for hours on Google; reading and researching.
While Jack was extremely stubborn, a horrible housekeeper and the keeper of too many things; he was also an incredible listener and confidante with a heart of gold. He truly believed the Phi Delta Chi motto "Alterum Alterius Auxilio Eget" Each needs the help of the other. He will be dearly missed.
Special thanks to all of the volunteers at Meals on Wheels, the New Ulm police department, the first responders, social workers and all of the medical staff who have assisted in his care over the past few years. Your kindness and care is so very appreciated. He had high hopes that he would be able to live at home until the end and our joint effort combined with his persistence made that a reality.
Jack is survived by his sister, Ramona (Robert Aufenthie) Nagel; nephews, Ron (Cynthia) Nagel of Mesa, AZ, Alan (Laura) Nagel of Springfield, VA, and Brian Nagel of Glencoe; and loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Warren Nagel.
