July 11, 1937 – March 2, 2023
James Anderson, age 85 of New Ulm died Thursday, March 2, 2023 surrounded by family at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in New Ulm with Pastor Nick Scutari officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, in Glenville at a later date.
Visitation will be 4-6 pm on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – NORTH chapel and will continue 9-10 am on Wednesday at church.

Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Alice Anderson of New Ulm; daughters, Julie (Troy) Tasche of Mound, Robin (Michael) O'Connor of Rockford; sons, Mark Anderson of Rockford, Dan (Missy) Anderson of Indio, CA, Jeff (Deb Eidem) Nesset of Jackson, Greg (Sheila) Nessett of Sleepy Eye; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Polly Olson, Joyce Haglund, Eleanor Johnson; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jacqueline Oudekerk; granddaughter, Jennifer O'Connor; brother, David (Marge) Anderson; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Olson, Jim Haglund, Bob Johnson.
James Andrew Anderson was born July 11, 1937 in St. Cloud to Clifford and Ida (Waataja) Anderson. He graduated from Litchfield High School. On May 28, 1977 Jim was united in marriage to Alice Wikoren at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. Together they raised their children in Sleepy Eye and New Ulm. Jim worked for Benson's optical for 40 years. He then finished his career at Hancock Construction until his retirement. Jim loved the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, camping or traveling. He enjoyed watching all sports. Time with his family was always important. His creative sense of humor will be deeply missed but countless stories and memories will be forever cherished. Blessed be his memory.
