Obituary

James "Jim" John Frasch, age 71 of Hanska, skyrocketed into the heavens on October 7, 2024, at the New Ulm Medical Center.  He was born in New Ulm on November 13, 1952 to Charles and Ann (Majchrowicz) Frasch.

Jim was a self-employed contractor, specializing in flooring installation of all kinds.  From youth onward, Jim's interests included the historical significance of items, whether they were passed down through the generations, scavenged, purchased or swapped.  His true passion was pyrotechnics.  Surrounding communities as well as New Ulm's citizens were treated to his well-orchestrated fireworks displays in honor of Independence Day.  Whether it was a wedding, social gathering or just because the night called for him to do so, Jim delighted all within viewing of his colorful displays.

With a gift of gab and a humorous look at life, Jim collected friends as diverse as the items he chose to surround himself with. Though Jim had no children of his own, he enjoyed entertaining them with his wit, charm and yes, fireworks.  What kid could resist the opportunity to spend time hanging with Jim in anticipation of a tree stump being blown sky high, or a stay up late night to watch the fireworks.

Jim had a way with animals of all kinds, whether it was feeding the birds, squirrels or the woodchuck under the old house.  His love of dogs was a lifelong passion.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home (North Chapel), New Ulm.  Visitation will be 10:30-11:00 a.m.  Jim is survived by his sister Audrey Holmstrom, cousins Sharon (Bob) Zelenka, Terri (Bill) Blau, Linda Galvin, Carol Daniels, Candi (Reed) Denny, Mike Vollmer, Cleo Matzke and many loving friends and neighbors.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

When one looks to the night sky and witnesses the glory of moon and stars, may your thoughts turn to Jim.  Perhaps he'll orchestrate a shooting star just for the pleasure of doing so.
