James “Jim” Joseph Zupfer, age 71 of New Ulm died peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home- NORTH Chapel in New Ulm.

Jim is survived by his wife, Irene Zupfer of New Ulm; his daughter, Jessica (Chris) Schmit of New Ulm; his son, Scott (Jen) Zupfer of Mapleton; his grandchildren, Abigail, and Deacon Zupfer; his step-grandchildren, Sage Schmit, Meghan Meyer, Tanner Frederickson; his step-great-grandchild, Moana Meyer; his sister, Cathie (Bruce) Wlaschin of Prior Lake; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James R., and Lydia Zupfer-Lindmeyer; and his step-father, Louis Lindmeyer Sr.

James “Jim” Joseph Zupfer was born April 17, 1955, in New Ulm to James R. and Lydia (Willard) Zupfer. Growing up in New Ulm, Jim was a 1973 graduate of New Ulm High School. He was united in marriage to Irene Amsden on February 12, 1977, in Comfrey. This union was blessed with two children whom they raised together in New Ulm.

Early in his career, Jim worked at Skyline Homes, and Ron Wilfahrt Construction. He later worked at Manderfeld Lumber, and in New Ulm before beginning his career as a carpenter with Design Home Center. Jim dedicated many years to his craft at Design, taking pride in his work and the things he was able to build with his own two hands, before retiring in 2017.

Outside of work, Jim enjoyed a variety of hobbies and found much of his enjoyment in the outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, and trapping. His faithful dog and companion, Trigger, was often by his side for many of those adventures when he was able. He also appreciated the beauty of nature and enjoyed working in his gardens, taking pride in growing and harvesting what he could before spending time canning the fruits of his labor in the fall. A skilled craftsman, Jim also enjoyed woodworking and was always ready to take on a project, especially when something needed to be built, fixed, or repaired.

Above all, Jim was devoted to his family. He was a hardworking and dependable man who took pride in providing for those he loved. He was also the kind of person who would do anything for someone in need, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or put someone else's needs before his own. His generosity, willingness to help, and quiet way of caring for others were qualities that those who knew him will remember.

Jim's life was one of hard work, simple pleasures, and a deep love for his family. Whether he was out in the woods, working in his garden, building something in his shop, or simply spending time with those closest to him, he found meaning in the things that mattered most. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and kindness that will continue through his family and all those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
