James Lamecker, age 58 of New Ulm, died Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11am on Monday, September 21, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm with Father Mark Steffl celebrating mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

A visitation will be held from 9:30-11am on Monday at church, prior to mass.

Jim is survived by his brothers, Douglas Lamecker of Two Harbors, and Jerry (Janet) Lamecker of Wadsworth, OH, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Rosina Lamecker.

James Frank Lamecker was born November 15, 1967 in New Ulm to Ralph and Rosina (Fuchs) Lamecker. Jim graduated from New Ulm High School in 1986. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Physics and Astrophysics. He later earned his master’s degree in Physics from Texas A&M University.

Jim spent his entire professional career working in the technology field. He worked for Kemske’s from 1994 until 2018, when he began working for Nuvera, where he remained until the present. Jim served in the United States Navy and continued his service as CDR in the Navy Reserves beginning in 2003. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Outside of work, Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed hunting deer and was known for making great sausage from the deer he harvested. He also enjoyed trips to his brother Doug’s place up north, where he could spend time outdoors and use his telescope to take in the clear night skies. These quiet nights allowed Jim to enjoy his lifelong interest in astronomy. Jim will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his service to his country, and the many people whose lives he touched throughout the years. Blessed be his memory.
