Jerome "Jerry" Roman Horner was born January 29, 1933, to Waldemar and Adeline (Baier) Horner in New Ulm, Minnesota. Jerry met his beloved Jeanne (Ringnell) and were united in marriage on Jun 11, 1955 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. He enlisted in the U.S. National Guards at 17 years of age. He was granted leave to return home for his high school graduation before returning to Camp Rucker in Alabama to continue his military duty. After two years in the service, he returned to New Ulm and entered the workforce. The couple created a home that bustled with the energy of their five sons, Michael, Scott, Todd, Jeffrey, and Dan, and their two daughters, Kimberly, and Jill.
Jerry worked for the New Ulm Street Department and Tachronics. He ultimately retired from Kraft Foods and enjoyed the adventures of traveling the country with his wife. The couple were drawn to southern Texas where they enjoyed 23 years of balmy weather and met many new friends. They returned to New Ulm in 2017. A few years later, they were invited to live with their daughter and son-in-law in rural Courtland.
The simplest pleasures brought great joy to Jerry. He loved to be surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman and could always find time to take the family camping, hunting, or fishing. As the years passed, Jerry loved nothing more than to spend a quiet evening next to his bride watching television, reading the paper, or getting lost in a good book. He had and uncanny ability to find happiness in just about anything. He was a member of the American Legion and was inducted into the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame. May these memories and countless others forever stay in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him. Blessed be his memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the New Ulm American Legion or Allina Hospice in Jerry's honor.
