John Aloysius Fitterer was born March 29, 1934 to Fidelis and Katheryne (Hauck) Fitterer in New England, North Dakota. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School and worked for a few years before joining the United States Army. After his service, John began driving truck for Kraft in Billings, Montana. His career brought him to Rapid City, where he met Dorothy Hedrick. The couple was married on October 17, 1959 in Billings. They settled in New Ulm, where they started their family. John and Dorothy raised their children on a farm they purchased until they had grown. Once John retired from farming, he owned and operated John's Corner Bar for about 10 years.

Outside of work, John enjoyed going hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cards, and watching sports. He especially loved gardening, where he maintained several gardens between his house and his children's houses. John was also a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. John led a full, happy life. He will be dearly missed by those that knew him. Blessed be his memory.
