Obituary

John Philip Heymann died Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Cedar Heart Homes in Franklin, MN.

A private family memorial service will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022.

John was born in New Ulm to John and Lillian (Bruess) Heymann on February 4, 1935. He attended New Ulm Public Schools, graduating in 1953. In 1958 he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Civil Engineering after which he returned to New Ulm to join his father in the family business, Heymann Construction Company. He became president of the company in 1968 and served in that capacity until his retirement. Under his direction, Heymann Construction built most of the New Ulm schools, many churches, and numerous commercial buildings. John was actively involved in the community, serving on the boards of the United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Alliance Bank, New Ulm Economic Development Corporation, South Central Technical Schools, and as member of an ISD 88 advisory committee. He was a member of the New Ulm Rotary Club for many years and received recognition in the club as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was one of the original organizers of the Wilkommen Committee, Industry of the Year, and the MLC Golf tournament. He was also an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church until it closed in 2018 and St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Palm Desert, CA. In addition to his local involvement, John served on the boards of the University of Minnesota Episcopal Student Center and the Associated General Contractors of Minnesota; he served as the Brown County Republican Party treasurer, was a consultant for the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology Construction Management program, and a member of the Traverse Des Sioux chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. In 2015 he was inducted into the ISD 88 Hall of Fame.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia (Garton) Heymann , daughter Dana and her husband Jerry O'Brien, sons John H. and Lori Walser, and Patrick and his wife Yukie, along with grandchildren Meghan and Brendan O'Brien and Sara and Nathaniel Heymann.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Cedar Heart Homes, Allina Home Health Care and Allina Hospice Care for their care and support over the past few months.
