Born on June 5, 1961, to Jerome and Jeanne (Ringnell) Horner in New Ulm, Minnesota. She attended New Ulm Public School and later Southwest Minnesota State University where she studied social work and played tennis and basketball. Being a caretaker has always been in Kim's blood. From being a social worker at MRCI in Mankato - and later for Blue Earth County - to opening up her house to adults with disabilities and foreign exchange students. Her love and acceptance knew no bounds.
On December 8, 1984, she was united in marriage to her soulmate David Zimmerman. Together they raised five children, ran a farm, and doted on a large number of dogs. Kim's greatest joy came from spending time with her family and dogs. Kim would drop everything if one of her children needed her and she was their fierce advocate and cheerleader. She was especially close with her sister Jill and they enjoyed many hobbies together but mainly their love of sewing and quilting. One of Kim's love languages was creating the perfect quilt for people.
Kim is survived by her husband David, their five children, Brittany (Nathan) Phillips of Courtland, Jessica Zimmerman of Saint Peter, Valen Zimmerman of Mankato, Dimitri Zimmerman of Blue Earth, and Kelsey Zimmerman of Fairfax; her mother, Jeanne Horner of Courtland; sister Jill (Kent) Derksen of New Ulm; brothers Scott Horner of New Ulm, Todd (Lila) Horner of Helena, MT, Dan (Tami) Horner of Norwalk, IA, and Mike (Susan) of Victoria, Canada; beloved dogs Carlie, Louie, Felix, and Ally. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
She is preceded in death by her father Jerome Horner; brother Jeff Horner; sister-in-law Marcia Horner; father-in-law and mother-in-law Delroy and Ila Zimmerman. A heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful nurses and doctors at Mayo Hospital in Rochester, Mankato, and Waseca for their support and dedication to the family.
Donations in Kim's honor may be made at your local humane society, Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet, or Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School.
