LaDonna 'Donna' Meyer, 84, of New Ulm, died peacefully with her husband at her side at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm, on July 31, 2015 after a two-year battle with cancer.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 3, 2015 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church (627 South Washington Street) in New Ulm with Pastor Wayne A. Laitinen officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be on Monday from 9 a.m. untill the time of service at the church. Arrangements were handled by the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
LaDonna was born August 25, 1930, in New Ulm. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. She attended grade school at the District 14 country school house and graduated from New Ulm Public School, Class of 1949. On August 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to Ralph Meyer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Ralph and Donna farmed in Ridgely Township, Nicollet County outside of Fairfax until 1979. They moved to Fairfax where she began working at ADC where she enjoyed many friendships. In 1990 they moved to New Ulm. Donna enjoyed working on the family farm, cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, gardening, and working on family genealogy. She was a member of the Ladies Aid at Ridgely Church, Ridgely Township, St. John's Fairfax, and St. John's New Ulm.
In 1952 she developed polio and spent six weeks at Sister Kenny Institute. In October 2013 Donna was diagnosed with lung cancer and brain cancer. Ralph and Donna moved to Ridgeway on 23rd in 2014 because of the effects of post-polio syndrome and cancer. In February 2015 together Ralph and Donna moved to Oak Hills Living Center. Their goal was not to be separated.
LaDonna is survived by her loving husband, Ralph Meyer of 65 years; their four children and spouses Rickey and Muggs Meyer, Perry and LouAnn Meyer, Charlotte and Tom Fahey all of New Um, and Lisa and Grant Carmichael of Eagan; fifteen grandchildren Jaymey (Jenny) Meyer, Brian (Shari) Meyer, Becky (Justin) Rother, Nicholas (Rachel) Meyer, Michelle Stodola, Amy (Justin) Marth, Stacy Fahey, Matthew Fahey, Jody (Jason) Enter, Melissa (Robby) Gieseke, Angie Meyer, Gina Meyer, Paul Carmichael, James Carmichael, and Emma Carmichael; and fifteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Elda Schefus of Fairfax and LaNeta Havemeier of New Ulm, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She will be forever remembered by her family as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and caretaker. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church or to the donors choice.
