Obituary

Lester Oswald, age 84, of rural Lafayette passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2022 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township. Pastor David Linn will officiate. Burial will follow in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Brighton Township. Please join the family for fellowship at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in New Ulm after the burial.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township.

Lester is survived by his daughters, Karen (Paul) Seykora of rural Lake Crystal, Susan (Charles) Hoffman of rural Lafayette; son, Allen (Dawn) Oswald of rural Lafayette; grand children Kelsie Seykora, Garret Seykora, Amanda Seykora, Andrew (Megan) Hoffman, Kyle (Mackenzie) Hoffman, Nathan Oswald, LeighAnn (Alec) Veit, and Megan (Tyler) Marquardt; great grandchildren Connor, Evan, Isobella, Jaxson, Addison, Ainsley, Leo, Jacob, Madilynn, Westin, Colson, Carter, and Liam; sisters-in-law, Arleen Oswald, Vivian (Drex) Drexler, Joanne (Roger) Hulke, and Arlene Nash; and many nieces and nephews.

Lester Alvin Frederick Oswald was born September 29, 1937 to Alvin and Marie (nee Martens) Oswald. He was baptized, confirmed and a life long member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in rural New Ulm. He attended District 43 school in rural Lafayette and then high school at District 88 in New Ulm. He was in the Army from 1959-1965. He was united in marriage to Corinne Voges on Dec 9th, 1961 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland. They were blessed with three children. Lester farmed his entire life, starting as a youth, then farming side-by-side with Corinne, his son and grandson.

Lester and Corinne enjoyed spending time with family and friends on many fishing trips in the upper midwest and Canada. In the evenings, he liked to play cards, teaching his children and grandchildren his favorite games. For over 40 years Lester went on an annual hunting trip with a group of friends and family (the dirty dozen) in Wyoming. He enjoyed restoring his father's antique tractors and pulling them in surrounding communities.

Lester was preceded in death by his wife, Corinne Oswald; brothers, Edwin Oswald, Melvin (Donna) Oswald, Dale Oswald, infant brother Richard Oswald; sister-in-law, Marvis Mueller; brother-in-law Lloyd (Naomi) Voges.
