Liz Jean Beranek, age 44 of rural Hanska died in an accident on her farm on Monday, July 20, 2026.

A public visitation will be held from 3-7 pm on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home- North Chapel in New Ulm.

A private family service will be held with ennichement following in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Liz is survived by her husband, Chad Beranek of rural Hanska; her children, James “JJ” and Zoey Beranek; her step-son, Trenten (fiancé Meghan Poindexter) Beranek of Brookings, South Dakota; her mother, Lori Horner of New Ulm; her twin sister, Cathy (Josh) Eckert of Staples; her sister, Tina (Nick) Anderson of Mankato; her father-in-law, and mother-in-law, James, and Mary Beranek of rural New Ulm; her brothers-in-law, Richard “Rich” (Sujin) Beranek of Lakeville, Rob Beranek of New Ulm; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jeffrey Horner; and an infant brother.

Liz Jean Horner was born on January 2, 1982, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Jeffrey and Lori (Schapekahm) Horner. She grew up in New Ulm and graduated from New Ulm High School with the Class of 2000. Following high school, Liz attended Rasmussen College in Mankato, where she earned her degree as a Medical Assistant.

On September 18, 2010, Liz was united in marriage to Chad Beranek at German Park in New Ulm. Together they built a life on their farm in rural Hanska, where they lovingly raised their three children, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Liz had a genuine passion for caring for others. She began her career at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm, working in the dietary department before becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and later a Trained Medication Aide (TMA). Most recently, she served as a Health Unit Coordinator in the Birthing Unit at New Ulm Medical Center, where her compassion, kindness, and caring spirit touched the lives of patients, families, and coworkers alike.

Away from work, Liz found joy in the simple blessings of life. She loved camping adventures with her family, where some of their favorite memories were made together. She had a creative spirit and enjoyed painting, ceramics, and making arts and crafts alongside her children. Liz also had a deep appreciation for nature and took great pride in her gardens, earning a reputation for her green thumb and the beauty she created around her home.

Those who knew Liz will remember her gentle nature, patient heart, wonderful sense of humor, and unwavering kindness. Above all else, Liz's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. She treasured every moment spent with Chad, her children, and those she loved. The love she shared so freely, the care she gave so selflessly, and the countless lives she touched will remain a lasting legacy. Though her time here was far too short, her beautiful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her. Blessed be her memory.
