New Ulm

Lorraine Gulden, 88, of New Ulm died Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Searles with Monsignor John Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, rural Searles. Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. Monday and from 7:30 until 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Monday at the Cathedral.

Lorraine is survived by daughters, Rosie (Jerry) Cordes, Karen (David) Christiansen, Gayle (Thomas) Schaefer, Lois (Mike) Bode, all of New Ulm, Carla (Junior) Watkins of Willard, Wisconsin; sons, Paul (Nancy) Gulden of Placentia, California, Jeff (Lisa) Gulden of New Ulm; thirteen grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren; a brother, Willard (Dorothy) Waibel of New Ulm; and daughter-in-laws, Mary Gulden and friend, Larry, and Denise Gulden all of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Mary Petsche and friend, Mike, of Litchfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, James in 1985, her parents; sons, Luverne, Marvin, and Lyle; a sister, Verna (Al) Yater, and brother, Ted (Helen) Waibel, and son-in-law, Tom Dolly.

Lorraine Cecelia Waibel, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Guggisberg) Waibel was born on January 26, 1927 in New Ulm. She attended Catholic School in New Ulm. On September 16, 1947 she was united in marriage to James Gulden at the Cathedral in New Ulm. After marriage they lived for a few years in the St. George area before moving to a farm in the Searles area in the mid 1950's. In 1987 Lorraine moved to New Ulm. With a family of ten children Lorraine soon learned to cook and bake which became one of her favorite things to do along with being a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed playing cards, visiting with people, taking care of kids, and helping out with the farm work. Church was very important in her life. Lorraine was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers Society, the Catholic Aid Society in Searles and a past member of the Turner Ladies at Turner Halle. www.mvfh.org
