Lyle Harley Thompson was born April 19, 1949, in New Ulm to Harley and Ruth (Drill) Thompson.  He grew up in rural Nicollet and was a 1967 graduate from Nicollet High School.  Soon after high school, Lyle went to work for Komatz Construction.  He later proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves where he served from 1969-1975.  Lyle was united in marriage to Val Buck on September 4, 1971, in Green Isle and was blessed with two sons and a daughter.  Lyle and Val started their married life in Henderson for a short time, before taking over the family farm in rural Nicollet.  Lyle worked his entire career as a dedicated crop, dairy, and poultry farmer.  When he wasn't working on the farm, Lyle was an avid sports enthusiast, and also enjoyed socializing over a hand of cards, or relaxing on the lake fishing.  He loved getting to follow and cheer for any of his kids and grandkids sporting events.  Lyle was known by many as a professional B.S.er, and also went by many nicknames including Bull, L.T., and Dusty to name a few.  To give back to his community, Lyle served as a past president of the Nicollet Lions Club, was a member of the Nicollet American Legion, as well as the Nicollet Conservation Club.  He was a longtime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet.  Lyle was proud of his faith, and his farm, but what he took the most pride in was his family.  He was always there for them anytime they were in need, and he especially loved getting to see his grandchildren grow.  Although his passing seems sudden and unexpected to most, many great memories will forever stay in the hearts and minds of all who had the honor of knowing him.  Blessed be those good memories.
