Lyle George Windschitl, 89, of Lafayette died Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Winthrop.
Mass of Christian burial will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette with Father Matthew Wiering celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 9:00-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.
Lyle is survived by his daughters, Janice (Ron) Rockvam of Fort Collins, Colorado, Joyce (Roman) Schiller of New Ulm, Marlys (Lonnie) Schiller of New Ulm, Jayne (Dan) Reed of New Ulm, Barb (Brian) Fox of New Ulm; son, Mike Windschitl of Winthrop; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Lois Tuzinski of Minneapolis, Alice (Lauren) Stueber of New Ulm, Jean Dummer of New Ulm, Joan (Jerry) Krzmarzick of Rochester; brothers, Alvin (Theresa) Windschitl, Curt (Joanne) Windschitl; and sister-in-law Leora Mae Windschitl of New Ulm, and Loretta Windschitl of Motley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Florence in 2009, daughter, Colleen Whittet in 2011, sister, Marie Landsteiner, and brothers, Arnold and Raymond Windschitl.
Lyle George Windschitl was born November 24, 1925 to Anton and Frances (Hillesheim) Windschitl in Mulligan Township in Brown County. Lyle grew up in a family of ten children which contained four sets of twins. He attended eight years of country school in Milford Township before he went to work on his family farm. Lyle was united in marriage to Florence Braulick on April 18, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple raised their six daughters and one son on the farm where Lyle worked as a dedicated farmer before retiring in 1986. Lyle moved to Winthrop in 2007 to live with his son Michael who provided care for him over the years. Lyle had a true love of the land that he farmed and all things outdoors. He greatly enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends. Lyle also enjoyed attending and hosting card parties with friends, relatives, and neighbors over the years. Lyle was a devout member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette.
