Marion Arlene Palmer, age 93 of New Ulm died peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am on Friday, October 27, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at 1:30 pm on Friday at the St. George Catholic Cemetery in St. George.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, and continue from 9-10:30 am on Friday all at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-North Chapel in New Ulm.

The Christian Mothers will pray the Rosary at 4 pm on Thursday at the Cathedral in New Ulm.

Marion is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Craig) Blackstad of Hanska; her sons, Michael (Peg) Palmer of Eagan, Paul (Connie) Palmer of Chaska, Thomas (Lisa) Palmer of Springfield, Kevin (Kari) Palmer of Delano, Gary (Denise) Palmer of New Ulm; her grandchildren, Matt (Jess) Palmer, Angela (Vince) Baumel, Scott (Maria) Palmer, Melissa (Kyle) Zygarlicke, Kelly (JC) Motto, Daniel (Ashley) Palmer, Sadie (Matt) Rice, Amanda (Ryan) Randolph, Josh Palmer, Andrea Palmer, Sam Palmer, Claire (fiancé Garrett) Palmer, Ross Frederickson, Katy (Seth) Frederickson, Megan (Shane) Cotner, Britta Palmer; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was the last of her six siblings, ending the Biebl area. Marion is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Palmer who died in 1989; her granddaughter, Marcy LaRay Blackstad; her sisters, Beatrice (Bob) Jordan, Tess (Bill) Keckeisen; and her brothers, Walter Biebl, Richard (Evelyn) Biebl, Lavern (Mabel) Biebl, and Herbert (Ella) Biebl.

Marion Arlene Biebl was born December 30, 1929, in West Newton Township-Nicollet County to Henry and Mamie (Walser) Biebl.  Growing up in West Newton Township, Marion attended Holy Trinity grade school and was a 1947 graduate from Cathedral High School in New Ulm.  Marion was united in marriage to William Palmer on August 28, 1951, at the St. George Catholic Church in St. George.  This union blessed the couple with a daughter and five sons whom together they raised on their farm in West Newton Township.  Marion was active in St. George Catholic Church, and later St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, as well as the Christian Mothers, the Catholic United, and the Turner Ladies.  Marion moved to New Ulm after Bill's passing in 1989.  She enjoyed gardening, and canning the fruits of her labor for her family.  As a gifted seamstress, Marion won many awards in 4H for her sewing skills, enjoyed needlework and quilting.  Marion made a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren.  To stay active, she enjoyed playing cards and completing puzzles.   One thing mom and grandmother will be most remembered by is her baking and the smell of fresh homemade buns and rolls each Saturday morning.  She loved visits from her children and grandchildren and always made sure there was food for them.  Marion was a very loving mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, and was very strong in her faith.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and are blessed by her memory.
